Gartner lower outlook for NFC as mobile payment enabler with 40%

Why bet on one mobile payment method (eg. NFC)?

In an updated forecast by Gartner, the analyst company lower the expectations for NFC being an enabling technology for mobile payments.

Mobile payment is not equal to NFC even though when you read about mobile payment and talk to people in the industry, you could get that feeling. Let NFC be what it is, a pairing method between a mobile and an external source like a POS-terminal, a RFID-tag or another mobile you want to communicate with.

I believe that NFC is a good pairing technology..but you should be able to use any (NFC, RFID, OTT, QR, barcodes, etc.), like in technology independent mobile payment solutions already on the market and that covers all payment situations, no limit of paurchase amount and already available on all mobile platform (not only approved NFC enabled models) . The NFC Payments Schemes on the market, ex. Google Wallet, ISIS, GSMA and Visa/MCs initiatives, today covers only one payment situation (POS), small  amounts (up to $20/€20/£20) and on selected and approved mobile models.

Anyway the Gartner report and also the new report from Berg shows nice gains of mobile payment in general.
