Vodafone goes all-in..or not

Today Vodafone launch that they will provide all of their users with a global general mobile wallet. Only need is a special SIM, add a TSM (Gemalto) and that all 400+ sub’s need a NFC handset. Start is in 2013 and in five countries, all 30 countries and all sub’s should be covered in five years..rather optimistic I’ll say, all users need a NFC phone and what about merchant side which has a technical and business challenge. But it’s a great bet!

In UK Vodafone also bets and stays in the JV Oscar, now officially named Weve. And in Africa? Continue with M-Pesa..or will the money transfer service (that it is) be upgraded to a full mobile money service as of launch today..meaning NFC and new SIM-cards to all Vodafone sub’s in Africa..I doubt, at least in this way.
