Visa hit the drums before the Olympics in London, calling it the cash less Olympics and promoting their contact less card and their mobile payment app, using for example Bolt waving his card in the promotions. Visa and the Olympic organization seems to have been quite sure about a success, for example not installing ATM’s where there was a lot of traffic, like at the Wimbledon, where the visitors had hard time shopping for food etc. (not working new contact less payment terminals and few ATM’s as backup).
Another proof of the non success is the after Olympics press releases from the participants…seen none so far.
My guess is that “just another card” (adding just NFC) was not the thing to get usage..
