Fewer merchants in Sweden accept cards

The was the header in Sweden’s largest morning paper Dagens Nyheter (“Daily News”).

One year after the law that forbids merchants to take a fee for card purchases, one result is that many merchants has stopped accepting card for small amounts. A merchant in Sweden typically pays 50 öre to 3 kronor for a bank card transaktion.

Fact: 70 percent of payments in Sweden is with debet cards. On average 170 card payments per person per year.
