PayPal is testing a new mobile payment application, PayPal InStore, in Sweden over the Christmas holidays. The new solution enables mobile payment at the point of sale and later on at vending machines.
PayPal set to partner two Swedish retailers – ski and sports equipment retailer Alpingaraget (an outlet selling most ski boots in the world!!), and Webhallen the largest computer and gaming store in Stockholm. Contact less payment capabilities is part of the test and are available at both retailers’ Stockholm locations.
The app is available for iPhone and Android smartphones. After downloading and activation of the app the customer just swipe their phones over the terminal, the purchase is then displayed in the mobile and the customer confirm the purchase, done.
More retailers will be added after the Holidays. Read more about the campaign here (in Swedish).
The technology for PayPal InStore is from Accumulate and the payment terminals is from Point, the leading provider of electronic payment solutions in Europe.
